ERCS launches a chronic crisis focused project in Somali Region By Tizazu Wodaje The Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS) in collaboration with the Netherland Red Cross launched a Chronic Crisis project that can benefit 50,000 people in Somali Region. The launching ceremony was held on November 5, 2014 at Plaza Hotel in Jigjiga Town in the presence of several officials from the Jigjiga, Gursum and Tuluguled Districs in Somali Regional Government as well as Ms. Maria Twerda , the Netherlands Red Cross Representative in Ethiopia. During the launching ceremony, it was presented that the 50 million Birr project would be implemented in nine kebeles in three districts: Jigjiga, Gursum and Tuluguled of the Fafan Zone of the Somali Regional State. It was also reported that the Netherland Government through the Netherland Red Cross would finance the project designed to be implemented in two and half years. It was learned that the project encompasses food security, water security and disaster risk reduction components where several major activities would be undertaken under each component.
