Humanitarian assistance provided to people displaced from Burayu

Ethiopian Red Cross Society (ERCS), in partnership with ICRC and UNICEF, provided essential shelter, non-food items, and water and sanitation materials to people displaced by a conflict from Burayu and temporarily settled in kolfe and Gulele areas of Addis Ababa.

The Ethiopian Red Cross Society has deployed a trained Disaster Response Team (DRT) to conducted rapid assessment with the objective of identifying the impacts of the emergency situation in temporary settlement areas.

“ERCS is actively supporting internally displaced people by delivering emergency assistance,” said Firehiwot Worku, ERCS Secretary General, during her visit to the areas. “The Society is supplying plastic shelters, especially to women and children, and is collaborating with ICRC to solve the problem of a shortage of toilets in the sites.”

So far ERCS provided 25 cartons and 1,000 pieces of high energy biscuits, 1,000 bottles of water, a water tracker with the capacity of 10,000 liters and ambulance service for 88 wounded people. In collaboration with ICRC and UNICEF, soap, jerry cans and buckets, cooking utensils, mattresses, tents and other non-food items have also been distributed.
